PokerStars Women's Poker League Returns
Monday, 31 January 2011 13:27

As part of our efforts to be a leader in women’s poker, PokerStars is launching the 2011 season of the Women’s Poker League, with a focus on helping women learn the game in a friendly, no-stress environment. With low buy-ins, league competition, freerolls and an opportunity to win a PokerStars Women Live Event package for the winner, it's the perfect choice for women who are new to the game.

The League will launch on February 7, with two tournaments daily at both $0.10 and $1.10 buy-in levels, making the experience affordable and fun. A freeroll on Sunday offers tickets to the $0.10 weekly tournament, which means that players can have the opportunity to play in the league with no cash investment whatsoever. The $0.10 tournaments run every day at 13:00 ET and 20:00 ET and the $1.10 tournaments are at 14:00 ET and 21:00 ET.

Both European and US divisions will be represented, and times are designed to meet the needs of players in both European and US time zones. The league will offer both monthly and yearly cash prizes and the year-end winner of both leagues will win a PokerStars Women Live Event package up to a maximum cash value of $4,000.

Other promotions offering higher buy-in tournaments for more experienced players are in the planning stages. Last year’s $5.50 tournaments were popular with many players, and plans are in the works for a special promotion designed for them. Check the PokerStars Women home page for details to be released later on this and other promotions at http://www.pokerstars.com/poker/promotions/women/promotions/

Well I'm done with the league then. I have NO interest in playing micros and freerolls and I think this is a terrible decision on the part of PokerStars. I hope they get the games up for serious players soon and I'm surprised that wasn't the first step since we're the one who pay more rake.

Micro play isn't for everyone for sure but some. I believe it says they are trying to cater to new to poker women. I am going to wait to see what they are offering for the next step, i.e, the women that played the leagues. I'm having some faith that it will be worth waiting for!

agree with the top 2 responses, It does not cater to us that play a lot of higher level buy ins and pay higher rake. It seems to cater more to the new players and will encourage donkey playing which is already happening at the $5.50 and $55.00 level. They should be starting it all at the same time. Both the amateur level and more higher buys in need to start together

I hope that Sara took my email seriously when I sent it 2 months ago suggesting $5.50, $10+1.00, and Sat's into the $55.00

I decided to write as I am very concerned the direction that pokerStars is taking with the New Women's league. I understand the targeting of new players to encourage there playing but Not starting the $5.50 and $55.00 games or perhaps what I previously suggested $10+$1.00 at the same time is very sad and discouraging. I am seeing the feedback on facebook and WPP and it punishes the more talented players and the ones who pay and play the higher rake. Playing mirco will only encourage donkey playing which already happens at the higher levels. Some women do need to realize there play is actually not that good and it is upsetting when you do on occasion get donked out.I am hoping that the League will do a separate point structure to these, otherwise you may lose some very good women players.

I am available for more feedback and would be glad to talk to your directors. We have a length discussed the league during the off time in home and private games. I will be encouraging others to write the feedback in as well. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.
Thank you

Hi,

We appreciate your feedback on the league changes. We have something coming soon for women who enjoy playing for higher stakes, so certainly haven't forgotten the needs of our serious players.

We made these changes because we hope to introduce more women to poker, making a league that is friendly to newcomers and a good place for beginners to learn. We do want to offer something for all poker playing women, and hope you will find the games you like at PokerStars. We're very busy behind the scenes, and hope you'll like our next promotion.

I completely agree with Dixie ... I don't really understand why you would roll so far back as to have .50 and 1.10 tournaments, quite frankly its a waste of time for a lot of the players. It was nice to have that $55 buy-in which kept the good players playing against each other.

I understand you want to get more women involved, but to be quite frank, I don't feel like you ever really promoted the WPL well .. I never received any E-mails about it, whilst my girlfriend did and none of the PS female stars ever played any of tournaments to my knowledge. I mean, what better way to promote than to have these women play.

To me, it would be better to have a freeroll and get some kind of coaching with one of the pros, some tips, etc.

I truly hope you re-think this structure as I also do not play on participating in a $1.10 buy-in. Thank you for hearing us out.

I am very disappointed in this announcement and I have no interest in playing these buy-in levels. Even if the buy-ins remained the same the new time schedule would make it very hard for me to play for the leader board. I very much liked the structure of the league as it was in 2010.

I also am very disappointed in the changes PS has chosen to take for the 2011 WL. While I understand the need to encourage women to join and learn. I think that the micro buy ins will hinder the growth of women in online play. Maybe we can find a middle ground and run micro buy ins as satellites into the $5 tournaments. I hate to see the girls who were so loyal and devoted every evening to PS for the league to be left out in the cold. Please consider how you are isolating your loyal women players with these decisions.

Haha, I was actually about to start playing these 55€ tournaments and I found to my disappointment that they're no longer running. There is no chance in h*ll I am going to spend my time playing a 1€ tournament as it is a complete waste of time. If this is what you'll have to offer I'll rather be rolling with the guys.

If you wanted to introduce more woman to the league you could have added a 1€ tournament instead of making all of them redicilous. No wonder people laugh at the female leauges when this is what they look like.

My 2 cents =)

I think the idea of coaching in the freerolls that Taz mentioned is great. Use the micros to saty into the regular games.

I thought the WPL was for learning how to play better. Without coaching or education of some kind, it's no different than any other game.

This is not good news. Even a beginner wouldn't waste their time playing .10 buy-in events. Why? So they can spend 5 hours to win maybe $6? This is ridiculous.

I don't believe $5 each day is too much to ask for a league. It's like playing a once a week home game for $35 and I'm pretty sure we can all agree we probably spend more than $35 a week on poker.

These changes leave a LOT to be desired if you expect the loyal players to continue to not only PLAY but to promote this league to others.

This isn't little league poker just because it's for women.
