When Vanessa Selbst sat at her November 9 table in the Palm Beach Casino in Cannes she had one goal; and that was to leave the Partouche Poker Tour the winner. And true to her word, Vanessa left holding the €1.3 million prize. The Partouche Poker Tour is the biggest organized poker event in France. The tour takes place across all 41 Partouche Casinos. Players have the opportunity to take part in one of the 2,460 “Satellite” tournaments (first level) and “Super Satellites” (second level) held at the Partouche properties. Winners of the second level satellites win a seat into the “Main Event”. Like the WSOP the Partouche Poker Tour, holds the majority of the event earlier in the year with the final table of the main event several months later with the final heads up match the following day. The third season of the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event brought a solid field of 764 players. 300 players won their seats through the three tier satellite structure of the tour and over 400 more bought into the €8,500 main event. The final prize pool was an impressive €5,684,160 (US $7,226,273).
Amidst controversy, the 2010 final table was a formidable one at best and seated around it were many of Europe’s most recognizable poker faces. Fabrice Soulier, France’s ninth all-time leading money winner entered the final nine second in chips. Also at the final table were Ali Tekintamgac, winner of this year’s WPT Spanish Championship; former EPT Grand Final final tablist and Danish Poker Championship winner Soren Kongsgaard; and EPT Grand Final High Roller winner Tobias Reinkemeier. For Vanessa, the Partouche Poker Tour marks her 8th cash in major events in 2010 including a first place finish at the NAPT Main Event in April at the Mohegan Sun. Since her start in poker in 2006, Vanessa has made three final tables and two heads-up semi-finals at the World Series of Poker and won the 2008 World Series of Poker $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. Her total winnings to date are over $3.5 million. Vanessa has quickly and efficiently taken the poker world by storm. In times of mixed emotions and confusion about where women belong, Vanessa is steadily showing the poker world that with the right mind set and the right skills, women can conquer the tables. |
