Rock Owner Will Play in World Series of Poker
Friday, 08 July 2011 11:28

Toronto Rock Owner and President Jamie Dawick will compete in the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas, this week. Dawick will enter this year's Main Event by playing on Day 1B on Friday (July 8).   In 2007, Dawick posted his best finish in the Main Event by finishing in 363rd place and winning $34,664.

"It's a real grind and a mental game," explains Dawick. "One mistake and you're gone. It's definitely a marathon and not a sprint."

In 2009, shortly after buying the Toronto Rock, Dawick made his way to one of the featured tables and appeared on ESPN's coverage of the tournament.  Seated at the Rock Owner's table were 2004 Main Event Winner Greg Raymer and actor Jason Alexander of Seinfeld television fame.

Dawick would love to add a WSOP bracelet to his NLL Championship Ring he won in May when the Rock defeated the Washington Stealth but realizes from past experience that this tournament is a whole different beast than what happens on the lacrosse floor in the NLL.

"The goal is to win, but the first step is cashing in the tournament. It's somewhat like making the playoffs to put it in lacrosse terms. Then once you're in, the focus is on that bracelet," said Dawick.  "I just want to play good poker and play my game.  There's a lot of factors you can't control and you have to hope for a bit of luck at the same time."

Dawick will be wearing Toronto Rock gear throughout the tournament and will also be sporting Bodog patches on his Rock wear.  Bodog is a proud sponsor of the Toronto Rock.
